In 2006, in the context of the Ciò che è vivo – culture tour, I visited Podere Casetta, in Sant’Agata sul Santerno (RA), during the picking time of pears. The lands were undergoing the process of transition to organic farming, so the fruit had still to be sold as a conventional, non-organic product.
Large retailers only sell fruits with flawless look and one specific size, so a crate had been dedicated to the collection of the waste products. Fruit that is rejected by markets, out of the standards imposed by the consumer’s eye and by the distribution chains; fruit I have collected and portraited in this sequence.
